What is Mentoring?
Let’s start by saying what it is not, Mentoring is not coaching or training where people are shown what to do and how to do it.

Mentoring is between two people, often the mentor has more experience or knowledge that they can share or may just be someone who is a great active listener. Working with a mentor is like having your own sounding board and non executive Director who will listen to your issues, opportunities, and the decisions you have to make. The mentor will feedback to check

understanding and often make suggestions and outline options. The mentor will help you examine the options and in retrospect help you to analyse what worked/not worked and why. The mentor will not recommend a course of action, in the end it is up to you to decide what to do, mentors never forget that it is your business or organisation, or it is your team.

Being a manager or team leader can be a lonely job and as they say, it is good to Talk!
