Julie,

This depends on the ages of the members of your party, but without doubt you should investigate Mermaid Street and the Mermaid Inn, take a walk around the Strand by the river, visit the Ypres Tower, climb to the top of the church for wonderful views across the whole area out as far as the White Cliffs, walk to Rye Castle, then visit Rye Harbour for the wildlife. For shopping stroll the full length of the High Street and associated streets and passages off it and, finally do some shopping, I can recommend Carolyn's Boutique midway along the High Street for wonderful fashions. Then just 3 miles away is Camber Sands with the dunes and a breathtaking beach, a great and safe place for children.

Most importantly, enjoy your stay in our wonderful town.

Regards

Dave Rodwell

Answer to J Collins about what to do on a weekend in Rye. The quayside. Walking in and out of town, mooching around the town, bookshops, afternoon tea in any number of cafes in Rye or the Tea Tree at Winchelsea, Winchelsea and Rye both have interesting parish churches. If you read Monica Edwards Romney Marsh novels as a child don't miss the village of Rye Harbour about a mile out of the town of Rye - it's the real life location of her fictional village of Westling. If you don't mind heights go climb to the top of Rye church for wonderful views.

Hello! My husband was just asked to play a rock festival at Camber Sands in May. We will be there from Thursday evening May 11 through Monday morning, but he only has to play on Friday. I would like to spend some time in Rye. I enjoy informal "home-cooked" style restaurants, and things like pirates and the ghost tour. I would also like to go to the Farmer's Market and craft fair. Will I need to hire a car? And does the town get over-run with tourists at that time, making restaurant reservations required and buses overflowing? Any advice and restaurant recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Hello Rye
The wife and I are coming to town w/c 4/7/2005. I wondered if anyone has a list of things to do, places to visit or events during this time.
Kind Regards,
