The hotel occupies what can be described as a prize winning location. Perched on the East Cliff, with panoramic views across the Estuary and the Romney Marshes, yet close to the High Street filled with quaint old shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants. Even on approach to the hotel, the history of this Ancient Cinque Port is clearly visible when passing through the Landgate, an ancient monument built in 1326 as the entrance to the town and part of the town fortifications. It is very easy to forget that you are less than a two hour drive from the City of London and just over an hours drive from London Gatwick Airport.
The building now known as Rye Lodge Hotel was originally built towards the end of the 19th Century as a girls school. Built in the original gardens of the local Monastery the building has a history dripping with tales of romance, forbidden love and entwined with local myths and legends.
Independently owned and run by the de Courcy family with their dedicated little team, so you can be sure of being pampered throughout your stay.
