If you are in Rye during the celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Events, you are in for several treats:
Saturday 2nd June
There is a Fete and Party with a great programme of events and music at Tilling Green which will be opened by a local dignitary at 11am. An arena with ABC Boxing Club display, a bouncy castle, face painting, a free barbeque, an entry ticket dog show, Rye Fire Brigade, Rye Druming Group and lots side stalls - a great family fun day. There will be music events on the main stage throughout the day and programme includes Jorga, Squidge Young Band, Starlight Twisters, Spltiz, Katrina, Eugenix, Wacky Racers, 1066 Rockit Men and Chris Coote.
The Battle of Britain Memorial are also celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire will be doing a display over Rye at approximately 4pm and a great place to view the flypast will be the Stand Quay. Sunday 3rd June
Rye Triathlon will take place featuring a sea swim off Winchelsea Beach; a scenic but challenging cycle ride along Pett Level, and then a tough climb up through Pett to Guestling, before descending down Battery Hill and along the coast road to the finish. The run section will be entirely within Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. For further information visit the web site above.
The East Surrey Morris Men will be in Rye at the following venues at 12:15pm -The Mermaid Inn, 2:45pm St Mary’s Church, Rye, 3:15pm, Rye Town Hall, and 3:45pm The Ypres Tower before moving on to Winchelsea.
The Riverhaven Hotel, Quayside, Rye, TN31 7EL have organised free music played by Lumpy & the Lumpetts playing for you on the riverbank from 3:30pm - 6pm with a Barbeque and Bar available.
Monday 4th June
The beacon at the top of Udimore Road will lit at 10pm as part of the chain of 4000 beacons across the country to celebrate her Majesty the Queens Diamond Jubilee.
Tuesday 5th June
Rye Celebration – Diamond Jubilee - 11:15am Parade and March (from Adams, in the High Street) followed by a Civic Service at St Mary’s at 11:30am.
Lunch in the churchyard will be at 12:15pm with a Barbecue, music, entertainment, face painting and more. Everyone is welcome to the celebrations.
The Sussex Brass Band, the premier brass band of the South Coast will be in Rye to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee at The Ypres Castle Inn, Gungarden, Rye TN31 7HH from noon until 2pm. For further information contact 01797 223 248.
